Question
I have a cuckoo clock that was purchase in 1962. The maker is E. Schmeckenbecher. Stamped on the clockworks is GM 1731483 and under that is 1741584. There is also the number 25 stamped on the back. It is a three weight clock that has both dancers and a cuckoo and the weights have been lost. Could you tell me which weights I need to get to get the clock running again.

Answer
Schmeckenbecker was never noted for providing data on their products.  In absents of manufactures data the trade must rely on visual and past experience to determine such matters as what weight applies to an application.  That being said, if your clock is of the 1 day configuration the proper weight application would probably be 275gr, if of the 8 day variety the probable weight requirements would be 1500gr.  To give you exact requirements I would have to see the clock.  Regards WJP
