Clocks, Watches/Hour chime on Barwick floor clock

Question
QUESTION: Dear Mr. Perkins,
I was able to reattach the chains on our Barwick floor clock due to your information about one month ago. Everything was working properly, but when the right side weight went all the way down, we could never reset it to make the hourly chime (number of the hour). All other chimes are still working properly. Could you please instruct me as to how I can reset this?
Should the weights be pulled up on a regular basis, and if so, how often?
Once again, thank you so much for your time.

Raven Smith

ANSWER: The weights should be pulled up weekly.  Pick a day and time and settle into a routine.  The weights should be pulled up to within 2" of the seat board.  Pulling them up tightly to the seatboard causes a lock up situation that can be difficult to resolve.  Regards WJP

QUESTION: Thank you for your information, once again. However,I still do not know how to reset the right-sided weight (the one that chimes the hour). It was working before along with the others, but  perhaps it was pulled up too close. I hope we didn't damage it.

Answer
I guess I do not understand your problem.  What position is the weight in?  All the way up?  All the way down?  Somewhere in between?
My understanding was the weight was all the way down and could not be raised.  This would imply some sort of obstruction.  Please elucidate.  Thank you WJP
