Question
QUESTION: I am wondering how to remove and reinstall a Hamilton 992 lever set pocket watch movement? The current case has significant wear and brassing.  I have found a suitable replacement but have never removed a pocket watch movement.  The mounting screws are obvious however dealing with the stem/crown is not so.
Thanks!

ANSWER: The Hamilton 992 is a fine movement.  To move the movement to another case is really quite simple, however, in my opinion the prospects of making a slip are too great to chance.  I would reccomend you take it to a watchmaker for this service.  Regards WJP

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply. I guess I will trust your judgement that it is simple and give it a go without guidance.  Thanks again...

Answer
It is a simple thing to do, but, as with all things, unforeseen problems do occur.  You would be dealing with a precision instrument and not knowing precisely how to do the task.  I urge you to consider having the task done by a qualified watch repair person or do the work under the direction of such a person.  Best of luck.  Regards WJP
