QuestionI have had this Verichron wall clock for approx. 7 yrs. now all of a sudden it doesn't work.... have replaced w/brand new batteries, but still doesn't work. Can not find a model #, only says Quartz - Young Town Taiwan, No(0) Jewels - Unadjusted. Pat. Pend. 00399849 and on the very bottom has this number 28792. Can I get this replaced w/a new one or what? I like the clock as it is Oak and generally been a good wall clock. Can I get new replacements for this or do I have to junk it? Thanks and Aloha,
Ginger
AnswerBattery operated clock movements can usually be replaced with a similar movement. Different manufacturers make movements that are so similar that they are usually interchangeable as long as we choose the one closest to the original. Here are the things to consider?
What size battery does it have? AA, C or D
How long is the hand shaft? You have to remove the movement from the clock and use a ruler to get two measurements; total shaft length from the front of the clock movement to the tip. There also might be a threaded part of the shaft at the base, we need a measurement of its length too.
How is the minute hand held onto the movement? Some minute hands have a round mounting hole and press onto the movement. A more common setup has an oval hole in the minute hand that is held onto the movement with a small nut.
Please give me these details and I'll try to pick out a replacement for you.
