I have a grandfather clock with a Franz Hermle 76 451-053 movement that needs to be replaced.  Can it successfully be replaced with any movement other than a 451-053?

sure

you can put a Ford V8 in a Volkswagen - but why would you want the grief and the difficulty?

Nothing will fit other than the movement the case was designed around.
The weights will be wrong, the pendulum will be wrong, the dial and hands will be wrong, the chime rods will not work right and on and on.


why not use the same mechanism?
