Question
My Emperor School Clock with  an 8-day Key-Wound movement model #141-070, (45cm, made in W. Germany) has stopped working.  It's about 27 years old and assembled from a kit.  If a new movement is available the cost will be about $150+.  Do you recommend repairing the old movement or replacing if available?

Answer
Because of the way these movements wear out I recommend replacing it. Your movement was made by Hermle and they are still available. The barrels wear out and usually need to be replaced. You would probably spend $100 or more to get a good repair shop to rebuild your old one.
