Question
Savoy Clock
Savoy Clock
QUESTION: Hi Michael,

I went antique shopping today and got this clock for 15 dollars.  I don't think it is worth much than that but I really like the shape and brass parts of it.  The torsion spring for the pendulum is broken and the winder key shaft is also broken.  Where could I get a new spring and also a new winding assembly for it?  Is it worth it?  The face name is Savoy and the mechanism name is Koma (made in Germany).  Also once this is winded, how long should it take before winding again (days)?  And finally, how to I remove the from needles to pull out the face once the case is disassembled?

Many thanks in advance for your time answering my questions.

Joe,

ANSWER: It's a very cool clock. I used to have one like it. The suspension springs are $3.00 each or $7.50 for a pack of three. You have to cut the spring and attach your blocks and fork. I can supply you with the springs and a drawing of what the assembly should look like when completed.
The winder is a whole other thing. The entire movement must be taken apart. You need to let the power down on the mainspring or it will cause damage and perhaps hurt you when you pull the plates apart. Then the mainspring barrel cap must be remove to get to the winding arbor. This work is complicated and should only be performed by a professional.
I probably have the winding arbor for $15.00.

QUESTION: I can send you the clock via ground parcel for about 20$
Can you fix it for me?  What would be the overall cost?
Can you also please check shipping back to toronto (lowest fee)

Thanks,

Answer
I don't know if it would be worth it for you. To exchange the barrel winding arbor and re-assemble the movement would be about $100.00. The suspension replacement is $20.00.
It may be more cost effective for me to exchange the movement for you. If you mail me the movement only I can try to match it and send a replacement movement for $50.00. The suspension spring would still be $20.00 if you supply the blocks and fork.
If you are interested in this I would like a good photo of the movement so I can see if I have one in good condition.
