1931 Hermle Mantel Clo
Hello!
I hope this finds you well. I just bought an antique hermle mantle clock. The
number inside the door is 113971 (at least I think it is - it's a little difficult to
read). I don't know how to make the chimes work. They're not going off at all. I'd
be happy to send you digital pictures.

Hi Michele,

I believe I see the problem in your photo. There is a black, L-shaped metal bar mounted on the small plate at the lower left of the movement. This bar presses on the row of chime hammers and prevents the clock from chiming. To turn the chimes on, simply pivot this bar upward so that the chime hammers are free to rise and fall.

If this does not correct the problem, make sure that all three keyholes are wound fully, as far as they will go. If the clock still doesn't chime, there is another problem, and the clock may require lubrication or an overhaul.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
