Question
I just came across my grandfathers Elgin watch and would like some information on it? the case is from the STAR WATCH CASE CO . The style is a SCEPTER #1483002 warranted for 10 years. The Elgin # is 14741225 and ther is an engraved # 483002 on the inside rim of the backof the watch.

Answer
Stan,

I really enjoy Elgin watches.  I have a small collection of them and I carry one made in 1926 with me on the chain my father used to use on his pocketwatch.

Someone wrote a book about the company and I would recommend it if you want to know the history of the company.  It is a great read.

The Star Watch Case Co. made watch cases, not watches (not that you said they made watches).  They made cases that were used by many companies.

Warranted 10 years means that the watch case would not wear through the gold to the base metal for 10 years.

Kind regards,

Melvin
