Question
QUESTION: I have a german wind up clack made by fhs, the main spring is broken, it is a hole end type, where can I purchase one?

ANSWER: Hi Julius,

Mainsprings are available from most any clock supply house, like Timesavers (www.timesavers.com), Merritts Antiques (www.merritts.com or Empire Clock (www.empireclock.com).

"FHS" is a trademark for Hermle, a movement manufacturer. Many Hermle mainspring barrels have a number stamped on them. Hermle mainsprings are often listed by this number in clock parts suppliers catalogs, which will make getting the correct size spring much easier.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com

QUESTION: my main spring for the fhs clock says G8S, what size spring is that?

Answer
Hi Julius,

This is not a number in the current numbering system for Hermle mainsprings. It may be from some older numbering system that Hermle used to use, but I am not able to use it to find the correct mainspring for your clock. The current system uses 2-digit numbers with no letters.  To find the correct mainspring size you will have to remove the mainspring from the barrel and measure its width, length and thickness.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
