Question
QUESTION: I seen you may have helped another with this problem.
On back of clock works is; Hermle Black forest Clocks
451-050 94cm/66
3 chimes/weights.  I received this from my anut and have no idea where the chimes go. Can you help me

ANSWER: Hi Pam,

I think you mean the weights; the chimes are the solid metal rods mounted on the inside back of the upper part of the case.

Depending on the pendulum you have, you will have either 2 heavy weights and 1 lighter, or 1 heavy weight and 2 lighter. At any rate, the heaviest weight goes on the right (as you look at the clock), and the lightest weight goes on the left. The remaining weight goes in the center.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com

QUESTION: My problem is what do the weights hang from?
When my Anut gave this to me she had removed the chains and the weights during the move.  Now I need to know where the chains go?

Answer
Hi Pam,

It is unfortunate that the chains were removed in the move. This should never be done.

The chains hang from three sprocket wheels inside the movement. You may be able to feed the two side chains onto the sprocket wheels through the side panel openings (if the clock has them). The center chain, however, will be much more difficult. It is usually necessary to remove the movement from the clock to reattach the center chain. The procedure for removing the movement varies from clock to clock and is, at any rate, beyond the scope of this forum.

To feed the chains onto the sprockets, you first push on the sprocket with your finger to determine which way it turns on its shaft. Next, remove the pull tab end (as opposed to the hook end) from the chain by opening the final chain link that it attaches to. If there is also a brass ring on the chain, remove that also. Then feed this end of the chain onto the sprocket until the sprocket teeth catch a couple of chain links. Now you can turn the sprocket manually and the chain will wind onto it until it is far enough down that you can reattach the end pull tab. This works well for the two side chains but, as you can imagine, the movement will have to be removed to access the center sprocket.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
