Question
QUESTION: Mr Mills,
I also have a pocket watch that I am trying to identify. It is an Illinois watch, silver in color, octagon shapted. The center of the face has a checkered pattern. I have read a few different ways to remove the back, depending on which watch it is. I have tried to screw it off like you advised the last inquiry to do. That didn't seem to work.
Thank you for any info.

Maureen

ANSWER: Maureen,

Can you send a picture of the watch, please?

Kind regards,

Melvin

QUESTION: Mr Mills,
Here is the picture you needed. I don't know which would be better for you to view. I could only send 1 picture.
Thank You,
Maureen

Answer
Ms. Maureen,

I am almost positive that this is a screw off back.  You would see a hinge if it was not.

It might be very difficult to remove because of how long it has been in one place.

Try to use a little oil.  Put it in the crease between the back and the case.  Use a rubber jar lid opener.  You might have one in your kitchen now.

You will have to turn aggressively.

Try it and let me know the results.

Kind regards,

Melvin
