Question
This is a 24 hour clock with two weights.
It keeps good time. The weight that operates the chime and birdie will work when the chain is pulled up. The problem is it keeps chiming all of the chain up and does not stop until all the chain is used up which does not take long at all.It is not free falling but chimes until the weight has touched the floor.
What can be done? I have repaired a Sligh Grand Father clock broken cable and replaced the F-spring to the cog keeper. Maybe I can repair the Regule too.

Answer
The clock requires cleaning.  Dirt and coagulated lubricants have combined to prevent the strike count rack from performing its job.  You seem to be handy, so remove the hands and dial from the clock, then set the strike in motion.  You will immediately observe what I am referring to.  The lift pin keeps merrily turning bur the count rack fails to lock.  This problem is correctable by cleaning.  Regards WJP
