Question
hello ,we inherited my dads clock(early 1990s model)has 3 holes to wind, seems to work well except chimes 12 times every hour, quarter & half chimes properly, can you offer advice on how to properly set this clock? Also any suggested normal care and or cleaning tips, thank you for any advice, have a great day,Mike

Answer
I think you are saying that the clock strikes 12 at the top of every hour but the chimes are correct. You need to remove the hands and face to get to the front of the clock movement.
There is a rack that drops down at the top of every hour. It should land on a snail gear attached to the hour hand tube. This snail has a section for every hour so that at 1:00 it stops at the highest point, strikes one time and then stops. The snail graduates lower every hour causing the clock to strike more times.
The rack is probably dropping behind the snail. If you take the hands and face off and send me a digital photo of the front of the movement I can help you diagnose the problem further.
