Question
QUESTION: My Dad has a Howard Miller - Model #612-475 - He says the clock is running, but the hands don't move.  If you could give me any information at all on how to go about repairing the clock, it would be appreciated.

Thank you

ANSWER: Is it battery powered or wind up?

QUESTION: It is Battery operated.

ANSWER: I'm guessing your clock has a Hermle movement with 2 "C" batteries. I just had the same problem with one that belongs to a customer of mine. I replaced the movement with a new one. These movements sell for about $45.00.

QUESTION: How do I go about ordering the movement?  And how difficult is it to replace?  Is it something I can do or needs to be done by an expert?

Thanks again

Answer
The movement is not hard to replace. I suggest that if you are contemplating doing it yourself that you remove the old movement first so you can get a feel for it. You remove the minute hand by first unscrewing the nut holding it on, the minute hand should come off easily. Then pull the hour hand off. The movement is held in by a nut at the base of the hand shaft.
If you have the movement I'm thinking you do, the speaker will be held in with a bracket. You would remove three screws to take the speaker out.
The movement should have the number 2214 or some other similar number. If you tell me that number I'll tell you how to order it.
