QUESTION:  Click spring Apparently replaced in 04/98. we got it at a garage sale for free. there is no key to wind with & man who had it said Spring was probably bad.chimes still work & gong still works . We live in Jackson ,Mi area. Where would you recommend having ity repaired & at what cost?  I would hate to just throw it away. I worked for ART VAN furniture for eight years & have a lot of respect for clocks. THANKS RAY P.

ANSWER: give me the stamped info off the back  brass plate of the mechanism

Hermle German 1050-020 mechanism -made in 1982 --like here on Ebay:

the center winder spring is to run the ticking - you need to wind the middle to see if the little balance wheel in the back will run after being wound up or if the spring is broken, etc.


a standard 4mm or #8 Hermle key ( the standard German key for the last 40 years) you can pick up at any clock shop for a few bucks to try it(maybe while you just wind it while standing in the clock shop!). Probably just up to you if you want to spend $ on it beyond that- some options on Ebay above
