Trying to set chimes! After moving hand 1/4 hour I here a click. Hammer wont strike gently rocking chime drum foward and back I see fly spining and hammer strikes. But still wont strike on its own. Chime lever centereid on chime.

Hi Jimmy,

Your clock's chime mechanism is stalling, that is, not getting enough power from the weight to operate. There are numerous possible causes for this, but the most likely are that either the clock needs to be lubricated or the movement's bearings are worn and the movement needs to be replaced.

I recommend that you have the clock oiled by a professional clock repair person, but you can try it yourself. You must use clock oil ONLY, no other type of oil is acceptable. Place a small drop of oil at each point where a gear shaft emerges from a hole in the front and back main plates. You will probably have to remove the hands and dial, and possibly remove the movement from the clock. If you have a professional clock repairer do the oiling, he can also examine the movement and tell you if there is bearing wear.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
