Question
Hello,
I have a Battery Pendulum Strike Movement Clock made by Talley - Seth Thomas CAT # 2334-001. I'm trying to make it work. The clock chimes properly, the tick tock movement is fine but the pendulum stops swinging after a minute. I replaced the battery and performed the set up directions as per the direction (Advance time to 10:00, 11:00 & 12:00 and allowing clock to strike).

Am I missing something or is the movement bad? Please advice.

Thanks
Sebin

Answer
Hi Seb,

You should make sure that the clock is level both front to back and side to side. Also check that the movement is mounted level inside the clock and is not crooked. Use only a fresh Alkaline battery, not a rechargeable or old-fashioned carbon-zinc "heavy duty" battery. Also, listen closely when the pendulum swings; if you hear a scraping sound, the clock or movement may be off-level or some other part may be interfering with the pendulum's swing. The swinging is accomplished by a magnet on the pendulum, and it is not unheard of for something like a paperclip to get magnetically stuck to the pendulum and interfere with its movement.

If the pendulum still stops, the problem is in the movement. Quartz battery movements are not repairable, and you would have to replace the whole movement. These movements are not particularly expensive and are often easy to install.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
