Question
QUESTION: Hello, I'm just getting started in GF clock repair.  I have a Urgos 9 tube movement(03038) that doesn't run.  The teeth on the escape wheel are different sizes(there's a big tooth then a small one then a big one all the way around).  I assume they would all be the same size.  Does this mean the escape wheele is worn out??  Where can I get a new one??
Thanks, Dean H.

ANSWER: Somewhere along the line someone has tried to alter the time keeping ability of the clock, most likely to speed it up by causing quick beating.  This was often done in order to install a fancy pendulum.  A new escape wheel will be required.  In order to order the proper parts you will need to learn the meaning of the information stamped upon the clocks backplate.  If you propose to do this work yourelf I urge you to engage in a clock repair program.  I might have an old urgos aprts movement that might help you.  If interested let me know and I will go hunting.  I will also need ALL the information that is stamped upon the backplate.  Regards WJP

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your fast reply.  Actually I have two 9 tube movements(I thought I could get one running out of the two), but both escape wheels are worn or altered.  The first one is a Urgos 03038B  244356.  The other is a Urgos 03052B  393410.  If you could find an escape wheel that would work in either of these it would be great.  (could you tell me what the numbers mean?)I also have a set of brass tubes(14 in all) and I don't know what lengths go in a GF 9 tube clock.  Could you help me out with this problem also.
Thanks again,  Dean H in NH

Answer
As I perceive your problem you have two distinct part movements, a model 03038 and a model 03052.  First I doubt you will find much interchangeable between the two.  The Urgos movements are still being built by Hermle at their Black Forest Imports location.  I suggest you contact them at <www.blackforestimports.com>  If anyone can help you in this project, they should be the ones.  Wishing you good fortune, regards WJP
