Question
I am trying to find the serial number on a Waltham watch. Everything I read says I need to find the number on the movement. What I need to find out is how to access the movement so I can get the information. The watch was given to my grandfather on his 21st birthday in 1896. It is an open faced watch.
Thank You,

Answer
John,

That is wonderful. Make sure you write down the history of the watch and it's owners for the next generation to receive it.

The watch case most likely opens like a jar, by twisting it off.  If you don't see any hinges, then it is the screw off kind.

You may need to use something to hold the case.  The rubber jar openers that people use to get off a tough lid will work well.  You may have to put some effort behind it if it has not been opened in awhile.  Using a SMALL amount of oil might help.

Kind regards,

Melvin
