Clocks, Watches/chime rods

Question
I read your answer to another person whom had the same problem. One of my chime rod broke on my ridgeway grandfather clock after the weight fell off the hook. I lived near Toronto Canada but seems to me that I cannot buy the chime rod set from them. They all wanted to come to my house and disassemble my clock and do a complete service and they all tell me that the parts supply shops only sells part to clock maker or repair shops. To me, that is horse crap. They all wanted to milk me for over 500.00. I have the copper head screw in type. Can you get back to me so I can put the music back on my clock.  Thanks. My e-mail is

Regards

Titus

Answer
Individual chime rods can be purchased for about $15.00 or $20.00. If the rod is the same diameter and length the pitch of the note it plays should be close but may require some fine tuning.
I need to know if the rod is steel or copper?
How long is it?
What is the diameter of the rod?
What is the diameter of the thread?
