Question
I recently purchased asligh grandfather clock.  triple chime cable. model #0926-1-an. movement #312-do3 original purchased 12-25-85. I had it cleaned,by a repair shop. the hour chime works when you crank the cable up to the top. going down only 7" and stops working. crank back up same thing. the other two cables go downto the base. repair shop has been out many times. no fix. refunded my money. now stuck.

Answer
In my opinion I do not believe the movement in your clock is worth repairing.  Even were you to have it successfully repaired you would still have a movement made from inferior materials and therefor prone to high repair costs.  I suggest you simply replace the movement with a new movement of superior grade materials.  This will be a far more cost effective procedure and you end up with a much better clock than it was when new.  Regards WJP
