Clocks, Watches/Setting movement in beat

Question
Hi, I recently bought a new haven store regulator and the movement I pulled out because it wouldn't run. After cleaning years of filth off it and oiling the beat is off, as it was prior to the cleaning. It goes tick..tock....tick..tock. It only runs about 4 minutes then stops. I have it mounted to a board and leveled side to side and top to bottom. Could you explain the proper adjustments to setting in beat? Thank You for your help and time.

Answer
The wire that looks like an upside crutch and is attached to the tic toc verge that releases power from the escape wheel is what we are going to address.

holding this wire close to the top with one hand barely bend the wire holding it close to the point that the suspension wire goes thru it.  Try bending it to the right first.  Set the pend in motion and listen for about 30 sec. and see if we are bending in the right direction.  If this improves the tic and you think you need to bend it more do so.  If this direction does not correct the beat try going the other way.  Remember to support the wire with your fingers as you bend so nor to break it off from the verge.

After you hang the clock on the wall you might have to move the clock slightly off of vertical to make it tic toc in perfect beat or just leave the dial off after you hang it to make a final adjustment.

The bushing holes on these New Haven are usually worn out of round after about 10 to 15 years of no service and a clock smith might have to replace them.  Make sure the verge locking wire is in place and the bent locking wire is not touching the verge.  Really hard to put this in understandable words.  Feel free to call me at 919-304-7651
