Clocks, Watches/Sligh Clock Replacement Part

Question
I own a Sligh Grandfather clock and a screw that holds a wheel the weight hangs on has come up missing.  Here are the particulars on the clock:

Model:  0306-1-NC
Reg:  250-0016-07
Movement:  500-0038
Dial:  530-0049
Pendulum:  560-0115

I see that Bulova purchased Sligh, but it also appears that Bulova has sold it's grandfather clock division to some employees.  Who can I contact for a replacement part?

One additional item worth noting is that the parts to our clock our nickel plated, not brass plated.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Answer
Nickie, I believe you are talking about screw on the weight pulley.  The manufacturers do not generally offer a lot of small parts for the clocks the sell that are out of warranty.  However, there are suppliers that do carry the parts.  One problem with identifying the parts is that the manufacturers use different vendors for various components, so the individual sub-parts don't always match.  The model information you have give me is from the Sligh numbering system and there is no available cross-matching that I know of.  There are a few ways we can get your part.  If you have the capability of sending a photo of the pulley to my shop email address below, I can try to match it with ones I have in stock to determine the screw.  Or you can send me the pulley assembly and I can match a screw with it.  If you need to send the pulley assembly, you will have to detach the end of the cable from the movement to remove the assembly.  If you don't know how to do that, send me the model number of the movement (information found on the back plate of the movement). Or you can send me the screw from one of the other pulleys and I can match it.

Let me know.

Expertise

As much as I would like to offer values of clocks, I am not a certified appraiser and will not venture into giving an unresearched guess. There is very little published information on what I consider to be the value of "modern production clocks". Considerations are what the clock originally sold for, the condition of the case and movement, and particularly the area in which you live, the demand and the economy. ALSO, WATCHES ARE NOT MY FIELD. However, I can advise the clock owner on proper maintenance of a clock to keep it running, small corrections and adjustments and how to move a clock without damaging it. I can also advise on obtaining parts for clocks. It helps if you can send any information on the clock movement which is usually found on the back plate of the movement. I have been a clockmaker for about 35 years and was plant engineer in the mid 90's and later operations and engineering consultant at Emperor Clock Company in Fairhope, Alabama. I now have my own clock shop.

Experience

One of my greatest accomplishments was traveling to China to assist a clock factory in building clocks to the standards which we required. With the proper specifications and quality control, some beautiful clock cases were built. The factory people from the wood carvers to the plant manager were very congenial, friendly and I left a lot of wonderful friends when I returned from my trips.
