Question
hi, i recently moved a ehan allen grandfather clock and now the pendulum will only work for about 7min. and the chimes stopped working. my wife is driving me nuts to fix it since it was her mothers.  please help. what i have for info is as follows:
model# 08 3805
movement w
serial # 9194

Answer
I presume the clock was working okay before its move.  This would lead me to believe the clock has gone out of beat.  Your Ethan Allen should have an automatic beat regulator and should activate itself.  Some times when clocks are subjected to excessive movements they get so far out of beat that they cannot take care of themselves, they need help.  To afford this help simply grasp the very bottom of the pendulum, below the regulating nut, pull down with a force of about a pound and move the pendulum in an arc of about 4 inches.  Stop the pendulum at dead center, release the downward pull and set in motion.  This should activate the automatic beat regulator, and your clock should take care of its self.  If it does not you had best call in a clock repair person.  There is more wrong than the mere effect of moving.  Regards WJP
