Question
have a german granfather clock my father bougth from a GI stationed in germany in the 1960's.  Clock is black original wood, no stains, is dated from the 1700's. Pendulum with weithts that have to be properly aligned to make it chime.  Beautiful clock. Any idea on originality and worth, and who could repair it.

Answer
I don't do appraisals but can say that you have a valuable clock. Relatively few clocks from that time period are still around and especially the German ones are sought by collectors. You may want to get a professional appraisal before getting it serviced.
Any qualified clock repair person can repair your clock but because of the value and rarity of your clock I would seek references before having someone work on it. Be especially careful if anyone needs to take the movement or the entire clock to the shop. You want a person or company that is insured and/or bonded. Take photos of it for your protection as well.
It may be possible to repair your clock in your home without taking it to the shop.
I hope this information helps you.
