Question
My husband brought home a grandfather clock from a job he was on. The clock worked fine before he brought it home, however, we now can not figure out how to re-attach the weights, as the chains are hanging to the bottom of the case and will not pull up.It is a three weight/chain system. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Answer
I suspect the chains are already pulled all the way up.  I suggest you fashion hooks from old coat hangers.  You will have to reach up into the clock works and hook one to each chain, at its very end, i.e. the end against the chain gear, then you can hang the weights to the other ends of the coat hanger hooks.  By this means you can get the clock to run until the ends of the chains become visible, at which time you could properly hang the weights.  If you can't make this work, let me know and we will take another shot at it.  Regards WJP

WHOA!!!!  Let's back up here a bit.  Are you saying there is only one chain involved here and that it is lying in the bottom of the case?  If that is the situation we need to start all over.  I had presumed all three chains were hung up in the same position.  Having only one of the chain involved is a whole nother breed of cats.  Please advise.  Regards WJP
