Clocks, Watches/HERMAN MILLER WALL CLOCK
Expert: Michael Radi - 1/4/2010
QuestionAT THE END OF OCTOBER I REMOVED THE BATTERIES TO RESET THE CLOCK FOR STANDARD TIME. WHEN I REINSERTED THEM THE PENDELUM AND CHIME WORK BUT THE CLOCK DOES NOT. I TRIED NEW BATTERIES WITH THE SAME RESULTS. I HAVE NEVER USED DURACELL BATTERIES AND THE CLOCK HAS WORKED WELL. THE CHIMES HAVE CEASED TO WORK PROPERLY FOR SOME TIME AND I HAVE HAD THE CLOCK FOR OVER TEN YEARS. IF I MUST REPLACE THE QUARTZ MECHANISM WHERE CAN I FIND ONE. THE NUMBER ON THE CLOCK IS 2215. THANK YOU.
AnswerThese movements have a great sound but they have a problem as you described. I have sold hundreds of these but finally stopped stocking them because so many of them failed.
The Hermle factory says to use Duracell Copper Top batteries because the shape of the top of the battery makes a better connection. I don't agree with this. There is something very wrong with the design of the movements.
You can purchase a new movement from Klockit.com or clockparts.com
There should be some numbers after the 2215 indicating the length of the hand shaft. If those numbers are not there, be sure you order one with the same length hand shaft as your original
