Clocks, Watches/Linden Wall Clock
Expert: Michael Radi - 1/26/2010
QuestionQUESTION: I have a Linden wall clock with two weights that is over 40 years old. Every few days, I pull up each weight with the chain. Today, the weight that controls the time would not take hold and it felt as if it was off its track. I was able to spin the chain back and forth on the gear. This has happened before about two years ago and I brought it it for repair. Is this something I could fix myself?
Thank you
ANSWER: It depends on what caused the problem and how good you are with your hands. On the chain gear there is a small paw called the click. The click is pushed against the click gear with a spring called the click spring.
You will need to remove the movement from the case. If you provide photos to me I can tell you how to do this.
Sometimes the click snaps backward and gets stuck under the click spring. If this is the case, you only need to push the click pack into position against the click gear. More often, the click spring breaks or cracks and a new spring would need to be installed. This can be a simple to moderately difficult job depending on the clock movement.
I can help you get the click spring if you want to repair it yourself.
Let me know if you need more help.

QUESTION: Hi Michael,
I was finally able to send pictures to you today, but I got an auto response saying this question was already asked. So, I'm not sure if you received the pictures. Please let me know if you did, and if not, is there an email I can use since it doesn't appear I can send them through this site.
Thanks,
Diane
AnswerI understand that you had to send your question several times because this system only allows you to put one photo on each question.
I answered your question as a response to one of them. I had to do something with the other questions so I rejected them as duplicate questions.
Please look through all of them to find the one I answered.
