Question
I have a Ridgeway Grandmother Clock with "E" movement. The chimes are chimming 3 minutes before the correct time for the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and on the hour.  How do I adjust the timimg of the chimes?
Thanks

Answer
You will need to adjust the minute hand.  To do this, first stop the clock as it starts to chime.  Remove the minute hand nut and the minute hand from the clock.  Turn the hand over in your palm and you will see that the square hole that fixes the hand in position on its shaft is in the form of a friction fit bushing.  To correct your problem you need to turn that bushing slightly so that when you return the hand to its shaft that it has been set back 3 minutes.  When you have accomplished this, secure the hand to its shaft with the hand nut and start the clock.  Reset the clock to the correct time in the usual manner.  By these action you will have synchronized the chime to the actual time.  Regards WJP
