Question
QUESTION: I have a, must be about 20-year old, ships clock. Brass desk model. Stainless steel face with sweep second hand. Above the center it read's Bell Clock Co. with graphic of a bell and under that, "Quartz". Below the center on the face it reads "Ships Clock U.S.A" It takes a AA battery in an insert on the back. And the insert reads "Tochigi Tokei Co. Ltd" 0 jewels - Quartz. No serial number. The clock runs but slows down after awhile so does not tell time accurately. Can it be repaired?

ANSWER: Hi Peter, does the clock actually strike a bell or does it just tell time?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I have never heard it strike a bell...so must assume it just tells time. Just to re-emphasize...it's a desk model..measuring 31/2 inches across the face and sits in a self-contained brass canted housing. Thank you for responding.

Answer
If the movement is about 2-1/8" square and 5/8" deep with one "AA" battery you could replace it with a mini quartz movement for less than $10.00.
You will want to get new hands with the movement because your hands may not fit the new one.
If you are interested I need to know how long the shaft that the hands are on is. I would also like to know how long the minute hand is from the center of the mount to the tip.
