Clocks, Watches/Winding a chain driven clock

Question
I recently bought a 40 year old Ridgeway grandfather clock.  The instructions for winding said to lift the weights while pulling the chains to wind.  I accidentally lifted the weight too high without realizing that the weight became unhooked and I then pulled the chain too high. How can I get the chain back down to place the weight back on it.

Answer
do not follow that instruction - because you end up often with the problem you have now!  Just pull the chain in the future..

which chain has the problem? can you see the hook or ring on the end of the chain where the weight belongs if you use a flashlight?
