Clocks, Watches/Cut Pulley on Grandfather Clock

Question
I just bought a Bulova grandfather clock and accidentally cut the cable that holds the pulley on the left (hour).  The piece I cut off is just over 8" long including the little nub on the end.  My husband is really angry at me and I could really use your help!

Answer
The best thing would be to replace the cable assembly with a new one of the proper dimensions.  A less satisfactory solution is to run the clock with the shortened cable in place.  You can do that in two ways.  First you might try to install the nub on the new end of the cable.  Make sure that it is securely fastened.  The alternative would be to tie a knot in the new end of the cable.  Run some solder into the knot to assure that it does not untie.  Frankly either of these alternative would be a hookie arrangement.  I urge that you opt for the new cable assembly.  Regards WJP
