Question

engraved side of watch
Hello.  I have a ladies Hampden "wristwatch".  The serial # places it around 1900.  The case is engraved, and it looks like a pocket watch, but it has a 1/2 inch cloth (almost like ribbon) band with an old, unique style clasp.  Was this made as a wristwatch or was it a pocket watch that was converted?  More photos are available upon request.

Answer
It was made as a wristwatch.  It is however what they call a convertible watch, with the addition of a chatelaine pin it can also be worn as a broach.  If the watch is in good condition
it would be a desirable parts watch.  For example; I am looking for a fastener clasp, such as depicted by your picture.  If you are so inclined I would appreciate a for sale offer.  If on the other hand the watch is in very good to excellent condition and you were wanting to sell the piece, I would suggest you hang onto it and wait until the market stabilizes.  This is not a time to sell a watch.  Regards WJP
