Question
i was given a gift of a used wentworth 31day wall clock. It keeps time . the chime strike does not work........it was wound to the max when i received it.  Is there a way to get the strike to work? i know just a little about repair but im willing to try. repair cost unfortunately is not an option at this time. Will you help?
                   with thanks, Lionel

Answer
Without looking at the clock I can't be sure why it is not striking. Some of them have a locking bar that pulls the hammer away from the gong so it won't hit. If this is the case you would still hear the gears running but no strike.
If it's not this simple you will need to remove the hands and face. If you want to do this I would like to see a photo of the clock movement under the face.
