Question
I read you post regarding Ariston pocket watches and happen to have one and can't find any information on it. inside the back cover is stamped naivco challenge1645740 and also what looks to be a hand scribed LH 2228 with the number 300 under that. it is 15 jewels. Other than that I have no idea. Its not working and the hands has fallen off but still in the face of the watch. Is is worth having someone repair it. It is very detailed and elegant looking.

Thanks
jimmy

Answer
Jimmy,

If we assume that it only needs a cleaning, oiling and adjustment to keep time, you are looking at $150-200, depending on where you live.

If it is worth it is more of a personal decision that a right/wrong one.  To know what it would be worth in perfect working order, take it to a local watchmaker or antiques dealer.  Ask them if they can give you an idea of value.  Value is largely determined by condition so make sure you bring the watch with you.  After a physical inspection, he will be able to give you a ballpark.

Kind regards,

Melvin
