QuestionWe have to move this clock, what do we need to do to protect the clock workings?
AnswerYou did not tell me anything about your clock other than who made it, Hershede, and the style of dial, Tempus Fugit. Different model clocks have different needs so I will provide some very basic suggestions. Remove the weights and pendulum, pack them carefully and separately. If the clock is chain driven, secure each chain to its ratchet wheel as close to the seat board as you can get. Bread ties are great for this. If the clock is cable driven, acquire some styrofoam put a block above each pulley and wind the clock to draw the pulley securely under the seat board. This bit of work will keep the chains or cables from coming off the winding wheels. Make sure the movement is secured to the case so that it cannot move about. Move the clock in an upright position. If this cannot be done additional precautions will be needed. Wrap the case in blankets, to prevent damage. Putting a blanket of two inside the clock door is also a good idea. If these instructions do not suffice, provide me with its full description and I will provide more detailed instructions. Regards WJP
