Question
I have a grandmother/father clock.  On the back of
the clock mechanism the following is written.  Frans Hermle
114cm/60 (114cm over 60).  My clock is ticking but I can't get it to chime every 15 minutes and it also does not chime when an
hour has past.  It use to work properly but has been standing in
my attic for 4 years. Please help.

Answer
When a clock does not run its lubricants combine with atmospheric dirt forming a sludge that can only be removed by having the clock cleaned.  I urge that you have this done.  The numbers you cite tell the movement was designed to run with a 114cm pendulum that should beat at a rate of 60.  There is much more information stamped upon the back plate.  If you wish copy down and send me that data.  From that I can tell you much more about your clock.  Regards WJP
