Question
this is a whaltham wall clock a 31 day, i don't know how to work it. it has 2 spots to use the key, which one is to be wound for the time? And i was told you can turn down the volume but i don't know how to do this, also when i go to turn the key it seems to be tight and i am afraid that i will wind it to tight, mainly i would like to know how to turn down the volumne. Thanks diane

Answer
left winds the spring for the hour and half hour strike

the right one keeps the clock ticking

you cannot wind it too tight --wind it till it stops

takes maybe 30+ half turns of the key to wind it --long springs to go a month!

no factory volume control- mechanical hammer hits the gong, only way to quiet is down is to put something between the hammer head and the gong-- little pieces of black plastic electrical tape, till you get the sound you like, is what I use ---maybe Skotch or masking tape would work?
