Clocks, Watches/Strike on the hour

Question
I have a D & A Wall clock. Key wind. It will strike at around 7 after the hour and around 20 til the hour on the half hour. It has oblong end for the mintue hand. Any Suggestions on how to find it? Some one said you can adjust it by ajusting the trip device. Not sure what and where that would be. Thank Julia

Answer
The oblong hole you mentioned at the end of the minute hand is most likely in the form of a pressed in bushing you simply insert a file tang into the slot and turn the bushing sufficient to accommodate 7 minutes.  That should do it.  If yours happens to be one that does not have a bushed minute hand, buy one that does, or put a bushing in yourself.  Going this route will forever eliminate the need to adjust, "the trip device".  You would be eliminating the potential for hour of tedious work as opposed to minute of minimal work.
