Question
Hi Ken, I made the mistake if lubricating my clock through the side windows, with WD-40. It still wouldn't run for more than about four hours, so I took the clockworks out of the cabinet, to do cleaning and more thorough lubing. I now hear that WD-40 is a big mistake. How can I remove it safely? Does it have to be removed from inside the bushings, too? Thanks a lot,  Mike Nelson

Answer
not so much the WD-40 as the way you applied it!

sprays are the no-no--had you used it with a toothpick on the ends of each shaft, you would not have the problem you do now. although not the best oil for clocks

What exact movement have you? chain or cable drive? how old? what are the markings on the back of it?

safely is one thing ---PROPERLY is another

get back to me with the above info...........
