Question
I just bought a sessions mantel clock at estate sale, and its a wind up clock but the wind up part turns and if you turn the key loose it unwinds very quickly. I would like to get this clock up and running but I don't know how. Can you help me?

Answer
I think you are saying that when you wind the key in doesn't catch and the key spins backwards really fast.
If I have this right you problem is in the click of the winding mechanism. You need to get to the front of the movement. The best way to do this is to remove the movement from the clock case. You need to take the hands off first. The movement is usually held into the case with wood screws that you access from behind.
If you are willing to take the movement out I can help you more. This could be a real simple fix or it might require a professional repair person. I won't know until you get the movement out.
