Clocks, Watches/wind-up problem?
Expert: William J Perkins - 4/14/2010
QuestionSilly question I'm sure...
My Ansonia mantle clock (model A26) has two springs and two places to wind the clock. The spring on the left (facing the back)unwinds, while the other appears to stay wound. Is this right? Perhaps one of the springs is for the chime movement while the other is for time?
How long should this clock run before it will need to be re-wound?
I don't want to over-wind anything at this point, I can be a real "pro" at breaking stuff like this.
AnswerI cannot find specification on Ansonia model A26. As you face your clock the winding arbor on your clock is for the time train, the one on your left is for the strike train. As to running time, and if it were american made, I would thing it would be an 8 day model. If, however if it is one of the many Korean knock offs it is most likely a 31 day clock. If you look at the brass back plate of your movement you will find the information you need stamped thereon. Regards WJP
