Question
I received a Howard Miller grandfather clock, model 610-627, serial #30750322, as a gift 17 or 18 years ago.  It has a chain-driven movement, counts the hours and strikes on the half hour. I love it, it works fine, but it chimes day and night.  Is there something I can add to the movement or chime to keep it quite during the nighttime hours?  We shut doors, to no avail, it's quite loud.

Answer
The "Delaware" model!

only thing I can think to tell you is to open the door on the left side of the top and either hook a small weight with a wire hook onto the hammer (s) that hit the gong from hitting or fashion an item to wedge in some way to prevent the hammer from hitting the gong--they you would have to put it in in the PM and remove it each AM.

if you bent the hammer shaft so the head of the hammer is further from the gong you might quiet it some? ( too far away and you get no sound at all)

What, by the way, have you been doing for the past 18 years? Seems you should have gotten used to it by now! :)
