Clocks, Watches/cleaning inside face

Question

GE clock
I want to take the face off an old, working, GE Electric mantle clock.  The case is essentially a large wooden block with two screws that hold the works to the back panel and a hole for the electric cord--and the hand adjustment which seems to be the only thing left holding it together. How does one release that--or is there another way to unscrew the face? I want to blow out the dust(sawdust?) inside and clean the glass.  I can't believe I couldn't find how to take a clock apart with a net search! Thank goodness for allexperts. Sincerely, LM

Answer
The knob on the setting stem is screwed on. It is most likely a left hand thread so to take it off you would turn it clockwise. You might have to hold the stem with a pair of needle nose pliers and perhaps turn the knob with another pair of pliers.
Let me know if you need more help.
