my mother has had her grandmother clock forever and would needs a new suspension spring--any ideas where we can get her one.

Try a local jewelry store.  If that is not productive go on-line to one of the clock material houses that sell to the public.  Depending upon where you live I would suggest either of the following:  Merritt's Antiques in Pa. www.merritts.com;  Ronell Clocks in Or. www.ronellclock.com;  TimeSavers, Az. www.timesavers.com.  Each of thiese firms has an on-line catalog that you can access to meet your needs.  Regards WJP
