Clocks, Watches/second hand

Question
I have a battery operated Linden Quartz clock that has a pendulum. I did put a new battery in it and the pendulum swung, but the second will not move. Could you please tell what is wrong with my clock and can it be fixed? Thank You very much for your expertise! The clock is around fifteen years old.

Answer
Your clock movement has two independent functions. The pendulum is swung by a driver and the clock movement is a typical quartz type. It's not unusual for one of them to fail while the other is unaffected. I can't diagnose the problem without examining the clock.
Here is what I would do: Make sure that the hands are not touching each other or anything else. Loosen the mounting nut at the base of the hand shaft (this nut usually holds the movement into the clock).
If none of this works it's probably time to replace the movement. If it is a time and pendulum movement with no chime, I sell them for $10.95 plus shipping.
Let me know if you need more help.
