Question
Melvin, 6495423 is the serial # with the name of a jeweler
AM HILL new orleans. My father in law wanted to know any info on the watch you can give him. It is in very good shape, spring cover, white face and very clean. It looks like maybe made in the 1890s. thanks for any info you can give us.

This watch was made in 1893.  This is called a Private label.  That means that the manufacturer (Waltham) makes the watch and puts the name of a jeweler on it.  That was very common.  Today it is still practiced by many companies.  Tiffany's and Co. for one.  Ralf Lauren just came out with a watch line.  RL doesn't make watches, though.  Jaeger-LeCoultre makes them and puts RL's name on them.
