Question
I have an old antique grandfather clock.  I went to rewind it.  Put the key in hole, gave it a couple of turns, key seemed to slip off hole, went to move pendulum and it  didn't start.  It was working before.  I usually rewind it once a week.

Answer
"slip off hole" is not understood. which key hole is the problem?

is the key so large or rounded out inside it slips on the square shaft? does this BOTH sides??

does the key turn but not hold the tension or click while turned and spin back?

does the key turn but just spin and not get tighter?

does the key turn wind partly then the spring slips and you are back to the beginning again?
