Question
I own a Barwick Clock 160 I purchased in 1973, and it has been running perfectly for all these years. I neglected to rewind the clock before the weight went to the bottom, and the clock stopped. This has happened before, but this time, when pulling up the center weight, I noticed that the pendulum would stop after running about a minute. I have that problem fixed by making the adjustment on the verge adjusting wheel, but the problem now is that the minute hand is loose and cannot lift beyond the 35 minute mark. How can this be tightened? Also, the chime system stopped working. It used to click and chime on the quarter hour, now nothing. Watching this clock work in the past, I noticed that tension was built up for the chiming to happen, it does not do that. I've looked for anything loose or out of place, and checked inside the clock case to see if anything has fallen out. I can find no reason for any of these problems, since all I did was pull the center weight up to run the clock for another week. I'd appreciate any suggestions and help.
Thank you,
Karin

Answer
I think it is just coincidence these things happened at the same time- no connection

what is a "verge adjusting wheel"  must be something English? or is that a threaded knob just above where the pendulum hooks on?

tension is normally an internal pin against a spring washer some where on the handshaft internally that may have come out of place -- not knowing what mechanism is in there I can not help further--can you give me the markings on the back of the mechanism?

sounds like you need a Pro to get into the mechanism.
